Perth, Australia to Busselton (days 39 to 42 - Feb. 14, 2023 to Feb. 17, 2023)

A vacation from the vacation

Days 39 and 40

Spent a couple days hanging out with the family, helping out around the house (also giving Kristin some practice taking care of a second kid :D ) and relaxing. It has been such a blast being with my nephew, he is such a fun little guy :D Wednesday we started packing so Kristin, Liam, and I could leave for Busselton earlier the next morning (Shannon will join us Friday evening, I guess he has a job or something :D ).

Day 41

The three of us arrived in Busselton right around noon, so we had some lunch at a restaurant right next to the Busselton Jetty (Shelter Brewing Co.). We shared a nice woodfire pizza together.

After lunch we made our way down the jetty together, burning off the pizza we had eaten :) The jetty is 1.8km long, and the longest wooden structure in the southern hemisphere.

Once we made it back, we had a quick walk along the foreshore until we found some ice cream to snack on. There were some large school groups that showed up to the beach. The ratio of kids to adults seemed a little off, making it entertaining to watch the craziness.

Cape Naturaliste was our next stop for the afternoon. It is a peninsula with some nice spots that overlook the ocean. Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse sits a ways up from the shoreline. There is a walk that goes around the lighthouse, leading to different viewpoints. We didn’t spend too much time here, so we planned to come back the next day.

We booked an Airbnb which is right on a quiet and calm little marina.

Day 42

Kristin, Liam, and I made our way back out to Cape Naturaliste after a quick stop at Macca’s for some breakie mate. The language barrier here might be the toughest I have faced yet :D Sugarloaf Rock was our first stop on the peninsula. Wonderful blue skies, white fluffy clouds, and water always make for some nice photos.

There are a few different walking trails along the peninsula and we went back to the lighthouse to walk one of them. You can pay $5 AUD to enter the fenced area surrounding the lighthouse, which we did.

Headed back early in the afternoon, stopping at the shops as is Kristin and my daily custom :) Cooked up some porkchops and fried veggies for dinner, just in time for Shannon to arrive.

Ended the night with a short trip to the Busselton Foreshore right at sunset.
