Albany to Perth (days 45 to 47 - Feb. 20, 2023 to Feb. 22, 2023)

Back to home base

Day 45

Wind and grey skies were the scene for my final day in Albany. It is such a cool little town with lots of different sites to see, both natural and man made.

Walked the small jetty right next to my hotel and then worked my way back towards an area in town with a lot of older buildings sprinkled in with more modern ones. York street has a bunch of different church buildings along it, as well as the town hall. Walked down a few of the streets just off of York street for a few other historical landmarks.

Drove up Mount Clarence to visit the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial. There had been soapbox races going on the day before, so the road up to the memorial had been closed off.

Met an older lady up at the top and had a little chat with her. She had been a midwife before she retired. Because the town of Albany is pretty small, she knew of the two Free Reformed Churches in town and also knew about their connection to the Canadian Reformed Churches as well. Interesting what you can learn by talking to people :D Maybe I should try it a little more often :)

Brig Amity is a replica of a 19th century merchant ship and is set right along the roadway to my next destination so I stopped for a few photos.

Cave Point Lighthouse sits on the peninsula south of Albany. Also nearby is a place called the Gap and another called Natural Bridge. I didn’t stay in the area for too long, as I was hoping to make it back to Shannon and Kristin’s place by dinner time. Also was starting to miss my little mate Liam :D It was a really neat area, definitely worth visiting again in the future. There were a few other spots on my list down that way that I never made it to, gotta save some for next time I suppose.

Took the direct path back to the Perth area, about a 4 hour drive.

Days 46 and 47

Spent the last two days hanging out and helping around the house with Kristin and Liam. Did a little wood working project on my last day in Australia. Kristin wanted a little kitchen tower for Liam so he can ‘help’ her bake :D

Always tough for me to say goodbye to this little family. Love you lots mates :)
