Dubrovnik, Croatia (day 62) - March 9, 2023)
Museums and Fish
Day 62
Inside the Pile Gate of the old town is a Franciscan monastery which was the home to the third oldest pharmacy in Europe. During the Homeland War, many artillery shells hit the old town, including this monastery. Throughout the town there are still some spots where you can see remnants of the war on the buildings.
Next stop was an aquarium with different fish and sea creatures from the Mediterranean.
Moving on, the next stop was another museum, Rector's Palace. The Rector was a government official in the Republic of Ragusa from the 14th to the 19th century. The building included a prison, armory, the powder magazine, as well as other important rooms. There was an area with photos from the Homeland War showing the old town which sustained lots of artillery fire.
We walked through the old town areas some more throughout the day, stopping for our go to snack here in Croatia, gelato :) Really helped boost our moral when climbing the many steps throughout the city :D
To end off the night, we went to Dubravka 1836 for dinner (the same place we had eaten lunch the previous day). After the salmon and cheesecake to follow it up, we walked through the old town to see what things looked like in the dark.
If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.
