Bali, Indonesia (day 30 - Feb. 5, 2023)
A walk in blustery Bali
Quite a windy and rainy morning. Three minutes walk from my hotel is a beach. I took a short walk along the road that runs just along the beach. The area I am staying in is full of all kinds of resorts and restaurants. It was pretty quiet out on the streets due mostly to the weather. There tons of Hindu shrines and temples along the streets and beaches. From what I understand, almost every household here has a shrine of its own. The people leave offerings at the shrines, usually flowers, fruit, an egg, sometimes a candy, and I even saw a few with cigarettes. I’ll have to ask someone more about these.
After walking the beach, I went to find some lunch. During my taxi ride in I saw a café somewhat nearby to my hotel that I wanted to stop in at. It was a further walk than I expected (nothing like a bit of sand in your sandals from the beach and trying to walk a longer distance), and I found a different one a bit closer by which was packed with people. Figured it must be a good place for food and coffee. Livingstone is the name of the café. They have a large menu with a variety of foods to choose from. I ended up getting a margarita pizza on black crust (charcoal pizza crust), a cappuccino, as well as a dragon fruit smoothie. After my late lunch, I worked my way back towards the hotel.
Spent the rest of the evening chilling on the balcony in my hotel room and did some catchup work on the blog. No big plans for tomorrow yet, I would like to try get more to the center of the island at some point. There are mountains and lots of rice paddies to see over that way.
